Bountiful Bonnets on Full Display at the Annual Easter Hat Luncheon and Pageant

In their Easter Bonnets and best church attire, Brooklynites were once again excited to celebrate the annual Easter Hat Luncheon and Pageant at the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) on March 28th.

Hosted by Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, the much-anticipated event invites older adults from East New York and Canarsie to break bread together on Holy Thursday. Every year, the BSC’s gymnasium is transformed into a festive celebration for the holidays commemorating the spring season where three religions celebrate their holiest of days: Ramadan, Passover, and Easter over lunch.

With a host of raffle prizes, a hat fashion show, and segments that invited seniors to come on the dance floor, the event was a much-needed respite after the weeks of dreary rainfall.

The hat pageant was judged by members of the judiciary system, including Honorable Lisa S. Ottay, Honorable Edward H. King, Honorable Sharen Hudson, and Honorable Ceneria Edwards. Contestants took turns strutting down the table aisles to music while the Master of Ceremonies, Lisa Lashley introduced them.

As a surprise to all of those in attendance, Lucas invited Tony Award singer, Melba Moore to perform a few of her hits.
