The Opportunity Hub celebrated Brooklyn Pride Day on June 10th with a table outside of the Spring Creek Towers’ Management Office at 1390 Pennsylvania Avenue from 11am to 2pm.

This was their first event advocating for LGBTQIA members of Spring Creek Towers and the surrounding communities.

Approximately 100 people visited The Opportunity Hub’s table. The Opportunity Hub received a positive and friendly reception from many community members. Health Care Choices of New York partnered up with The Opportunity Hub and offered on the spot HIV Screenings.

This event provided resources for elderly people who are a part of the community as well as health care sights that supply a holistic approach to meeting the mental and physical needs of LGBTQIA people.

AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF) supplied The Opportunity Hub with an abundance of safer sex prophylaxis and literature to hand out to the community. The Opportunity Hub distributed both male and female condoms, Pride hand bracelets, Pride flags, and Pride buttons.

“Overall, it felt like a proud first step in showing our support and care for LGBTQIA people residing in Spring Creek Towers and neighboring areas. I am looking forward to more events that show care and support for our LGBTQIA community members,” said Nasima Abdualim, Senior Director of Wellbeing of The Opportunity Hub.
