Abe Stark Primary School (PS) 346 hosted their first Annual Fiesta for Hispanic Heritage Month on October 24th.

The smell of rice and beans, empanadas, and an assortment of Hispanic dishes emanated from PS 346’s cafeteria as dozens of students and their parents gathered around tables covered in som-breros and a variety of flags representing Latin American countries on tabletops. The evening event featured a live DJ playing merengue, bachata, cumbia, and other Hispanic tunes as well as several areas emblazon fiesta themes and balloons, providing the perfect photo oppor-tunities.

“This afternoon we have a jam-packed agenda for you,” Principal Jabari Edwards said with a smile as he announced the start of the first An-nual Hispanic Heritage Month fiesta.

PS 346’s Culture Committee coordinated the celebration with a theme based off of the Disney hit “Coco”, which included traditional Mexican Dia de los Muertos decorations. Families took in the festive scenery and laughed as they learned how to mambo.

In addition to the delicious food and revelry, students in the Spring Creek After School Program put on a spectacular showcase honoring Hispanic traditional attire while performing two dance routines.

The fiesta culminated at 6:30 pm.
