“Que bonita la bandera”—which translates from Spanish as what a beautiful flag—was uttered by celebrants during the Puerto Rican Day Parade. The celebration brought out Latin pride across Fifth Avenue with a sea of the common wealth’s flag soaring high amongst thousands of revelers on June 9th.
The 67th Annual Puerto Rican Parade kicked off on 44th Street and Fifth Avenue to the beat of drums, as local elected leaders; New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams and others led the way for the festive celebration.
The theme this year was Boricua de Corazón, which means the heart of Puerto Rico symbolizing that our cultural identity lives in our hearts no matter where we are in the world.
Additionally, the parade continued its work with joined actor, composer, singer and writer, Lin-Manuel Miranda to create the National Puerto Rican Day Scholarship Fund’s Tee Rico t-shirt (the proceeds are being used to fund the scholarship).
The parade concluded on 79th Street and Fifth Avenue.
