As we anticipate our first-ever fashion show, “Spring in Bloom,” for the Spring Creek Towers community, we are excited to spotlight the local stars who will bring this event to life: our fashion designers, models, and entrepreneurs
Designer Shawn McMillian: “The Dreamerâ€, will be featured on April 12th Â
“I want people to feel confident and a sense of freedom when wearing my designs.â€Â
Shawn McMillian, known as “SDOT,” launched his fashion line, Dollar and a Dream (DAD), in 2019, bringing his dream to life. He has a unique style that he considers a form of art, using clothing as his canvas. He is inspired by renowned designers such as Nautica and Ralph Lauren, due to their longevity, as well as local designer Devlin Carter, because of their shared Brooklyn roots.
He personally prints each piece of clothing, and the creation process can take anywhere from 25 minutes to 72 hours, depending on the fabric and design. As a resident of East New York, Brooklyn, he draws inspiration from famous landmarks, such as the Statue of Liberty, which symbolizes freedom, and the dollar sign, which represents financial stability.
When designing the DAD logo, he reflects on his role as a father, and his love for his community continues to drive his passion for fashion.
