SCSP Celebrates Hispanic Heritage

BY AMANDA MOSES

Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of engaging activities aimed at educating and celebrating the history behind this commemorative period.

The holiday is observed from September 15th to October 15th, a period in which we celebrate the cultural and historic contributions of of Hispanic and Latin Americans. This commemoration was first observed in 1968 as a weeklong celebration initiated by President Lyndon Johnson and was later expanded to a month- long tribute, officially enacted into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The significance of National Hispanic Heritage Month’s timeframe is due to several Latin American countries celebrating their independence during this period. September 15th marks the independence anniversary of: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua while Mexico (September 16th) and Chile (September 18th).

On October 1st, SCSP members enjoyed a Spanish arts and crafts project, where they created maracas using beads and paper mâché.

The final fun-filled Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will be a delicious lunch with an assortment of Latin delicacies taking place on October 15th from 1pm to 3pm.
