It was a “Wellness Affair” for older adults on April 26th at Spring Creek Towers (SCT) when The Opportunity Hub held an afternoon of health resources, fitness, and more.
The Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) sundeck played host to 12 community-based organizations who set up tables with pamphlets and examples of their products for senior citizens to utilize. Spring Creek Seniors Partners (SCSP) was among the group of presenters, offering all in attendance free blood pressure screenings, referrals for follow up medical appointments and information on health insurance.
“It’s a Wellness Affair’ was a great opportunity for community members to get together and learn about different health and wellness resources right here at Spring Creek Towers. We were expecting 8 to 10 community-based organizations to attend and were pleasantly surprised to be joined by 12,” the Senior Director Of Wellbeing for The Opportunity Hub Nasima Abdulalim said.
In addition, to learning about the various activities and wellness options available in their community, participants were also invited to take part in a free Zumba class courtesy of the BSC’s instructor Andriana.
“This is great because it really helps let us know about the different opportunities in our neighborhood,” Phyllis Hall told the Spring Creek Sun.
“I learned about the Four Seasons Health Home Care, and they said for a tour they would pick me up from where I live and show me the daycare and even stay for lunch. There is also a [special] landline phone I signed up for that can be installed in my home for free for those who have trouble hearing. You can turn up the volume it also illuminates the words, your words and then the person you’re talking to. And it holds up to like 60 contacts, which is excellent,” Hall added.
Other organizations that participated included; the Four Seasons Home Health Care, Anthem Insurance, The Campaign Against Hunger, Healthy Steps and more.
