The Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) community celebrated Mother’s Day on May 10th with several affectionate events, showcasing how much the females in their lives mean to them.
The Starrett Early Learning Center (SELC) kicked off their early Mother’s Day celebration with a virtual presentation displaying how much they love their mommies. They sang, danced, and even partook in impromptu interviews talking about their mom’s favorite things.
“My mommy loves chocolate,” one little girl exclaimed, while another said, “She likes hotdogs!”
The three- and four-year-old students ended their virtual session by singing, “I love my mom.”
JASA and Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) also hosted events showing appreciation for the older adult women in the community with a spa day, a Mary Kay makeup tutorial and luncheon.
The lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) was once again transformed into a spa-esque atmosphere. The scent of eucalyptus oil served as an entrancing aroma as seniors walked into the JASA Senior Center’s multipurpose room and were greeted by the sound of classical music as they waited their turn to receive a free hand and back massage.
“You don’t realize how tense you are until they start massaging you. This is making the kinks in my hand go away,” Vickie Moore said. “I think we should get a hand massage every week. Women work a lot; women are the hardest workers.”
As Cynthia Lee received her hand massage, she shared that she was happy that the JASA Senior Center decided to host the spa event again for Mother’s Day.
“Last year I left floating out of here [when my back massage was finished,]” Lee said.
After their relaxing spa treatment, the seniors enjoyed lunch together in the cafeteria while also receiving a tutorial on Mary Kay beauty supplies by Carmen Daniels (a JASA member who volunteers her time sharing her expertise on makeup).
At SCSP, the members made sure to don white in celebration of Mother’s Day for their delicious luncheon. Some sang along to the music that played in the background, like Aretha Franklin’s “Respect.”
Overall, the day saw mothers of all ages thanked for all of their sacrifices and dedication they have made for their families.
