When a community turns half a century, rain or shine, a celebration is in order. On September 28, 2024, residents gathered behind the Brooklyn Sports Club in the “G Section” lawn at 1425 Pennsylvania Avenue to pay homage to Spring Creek Towers, formerly Starrett City (SCT).
Despite the rainy weather, neighbors congregated for a day of music, food, games, giveaways, and endless gratitude. Regina Harrington, a twenty-six-year resident of Spring Creek, said, “I thought the anniversary celebration was a beautiful thing. It was a nice turnout. People were dancing in the rain, and they were having a ball.” She continued, “This is a good place to live…I miss it when the kids in the baseball league used to march around the whole development when they started their season.”
Residents who attended told the Spring Creek Sun:
“It was a beautiful time, I loved it. There have been a lot of changes but it’s still nice. It’s still better than out there,” Rafaela Viera said, adding that she loves her “City within a City.” Viera lived in SCT since 1975.
“I have too many memories living here. I am grateful to live here. I never intended to, but my mother needed my mother and aunt needed my help. So, I decided to stay and that was my beginning. Starrett City is like a community in a pocket,” Livia Jakobson shared. Jakobson live in SCT since 1979.
