Empowering Others: World Read Aloud Day

By Melissa Billie Clark

For the past three years, The Opportunity Hub, a non-profit based in Spring Creek Towers, has partnered with the Starrett Early Learning Center to share the joy of reading and strengthen literacy skills with their 3K and pre-K students.

Founded in 2010 by Litworld, a non-profit organization, WRAD engages participants from over 173 countries worldwide. Sponsored by Scholastic, the event aims to amplify voices, inspire writers, and encourage individuals to explore the power of the written word.

In celebration of World Read Aloud Day (WRAD), the Sun visited a read-aloud led by Opp Hub staff volunteer Antonio Fernandez. Fernandez shared his experience. “Reading to the kids at the Early Learning Center was a delightful challenge that really tested my creative thinking skills. I admire educators for their ability to keep the children engaged and for fostering a love of learning through storytelling and imaginative adventures. By introducing fun and exciting topics, I believe we can inspire even more kids to not only read but to truly enjoy the process.”
