Fourteen students and four adults who are parti-cipants and staff of The Spring Creek After School Program and The Italian-American After School Pro-gram participated in this fun-filled football game.

This recreational game took place on Tuesday, June 13th in the gymnasium of PS 346. Both after school programs chose to have the game played in the gymnasium of the school. Mr. Jonathan acted as the referee for the scrimmage. The Spring Creek After School Program’s teammates wore purple shirts and The Italian-American After School Program’s teammates wore multi-colored shirts. The color of the shirts denoted which player was on the Spring Creek or the Italian-American After School team.

The Spring Creek After School Program played against The Italian-American After School Program and won the game. The score was not recorded, but this event was a scrimmage and a kid-friendly event.

You may be wondering how this collaboration came together for the two after school programs, well Jonathan of The Spring Creek After School Program believed it would be a great idea to show the school community and parents how the after school programs can come together and show a form of unity. Therefore, he connected with Ms. Liz the Italian-American After School Program’s Site Director and pitched the idea of creating an event that the children would enjoy. This football scrimmage was designed to strengthen the relationship between The Spring Creek After School Program and The Italian-American After School Program, through collaboration and fostering a positive environment for the children.

The scrimmage lasted for approximately 35 to 40 minutes. Upon the children and parents arrival to the gym Mr. Jonathan gave a welcome speech and shared his appreciation to all of the parents, and guests in addition to everyone’s efforts in putting this wonderful event together.

Approximately 30 parents and other children attended the game to cheer on and support the children. Though the game was for pure fun and positive sportsmanship, the game ended well with a win for The Spring Creek After School Program.

“This was a sports event the children will never forget. It was nice to have Jonathan coordinate an event that showcases why After School Programs are so important,” said Randi Ray, Assistant Site Director Of Spring Creek After School Program. After the game all of the participants were highlighted with special awards.
