It’s time to get moving with Nintendo Switch Sports! Inspired by one of the most popular games bundled in the Wii console, which arguably helped kick-off motion capture gaming, this iteration will see players breaking a sweat playing six different sports.
Nintendo Sports allows you to bring your favorite sports home to compete against family and friends locally or online globally. In doing so, you can earn in-game rewards and build your rank, which also gives you plenty of customizing perks. Gamers can personalize their avatar and as you keep playing you earn items so that you can continuously change your look.
Prior to starting up the game, the Nintendo Sports box comes with one leg strap where you can insert your controller for a more realistic soccer match. The five other games including volleyball, bowling, tennis, badminton, and Chambara simply require you to hold onto one Joy-Con (preferably with the strap tied so you don’t accidently break your controller or television).
It is also recommended that you ensure there is plenty of space for you to swing and kick your arms freely without hitting your television screen or the person next to you.
Each game requires you to move as you would if you were playing the real sport. So, it’s pretty basic maneuvering, in soccer you must kick in the direction you want the ball to go, tennis and badminton entails swinging your racket left, right, and overhead, but Chambara and bowling are the real meat of the game. Chambara is a version of sword fighting, where you block and counterattack, so that your opponent’s avatar falls off an elevated platform. This diverse form of game play never seems to get boring.
Bowling is also a lot of fun since players can perform their own Flintstone moves in order to get a strike or at least catch all the spares. You can even twist your wrist as you mimic tossing the ball with your controller, spinning the ball (but be careful you don’t send it straight to the gutter).
Nintendo shares that they will be including free downloadable content, including a golf game planned for later this year.
Conclusion
Nintendo Switch Sports is a great game to play against friends locally and online. While there will be free games added, one of the most notable favorites not including in this sports iteration is boxing.
