It’s the most wonderful time of the year to catch a deal on video games, console bundles, and gaming accessories. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday have officially ended, there are still plenty of sales to take advantage of for the holidays. If you have PlayStation Plus or the Xbox Game Pass, there are several digital downloads that are available throughout cyber week (some even continue until the New Year). Both counsels are offering up to 60% on gaming titles, but you better act fast!
Game: Marvel’s Avengers
Platform: Xbox Series X
Rating: T for Teen
Cost: $15.99 (or $26.99 for the Endgame DLC edition)
Marvel’s Avengers is an epic, third-person, action-adventure game and is the perfect single and multiplayer game for comic book lovers. It pays homage to each Marvel character in the comic books while also offering a few nods to the films as well. Additionally, with Xbox’s smart delivery you will access the upgraded version, since it was first released to the Xbox One, with one of the biggest changes being the load time, which often could take several minutes—a nuisance if your character keeps dying—as well as the option to play in either 4K mode or Performance mode.
Game: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of The Year Edition
Platform : PlayStation 4
Rating: T for Teen
Cost: $19.99
One of Marvel’s most infamous characters, Spider-Man was released in September 2018, but since then it has been remastered for its game of the year edition. For a limited time, this version of our favorite web slinging hero was originally priced at $39.99, but for the PlayStation’s end of year sale it’s come down to $19.99 (It’s also available on Amazon for the same price). Try your hand in stepping to the web crawlers shoes as he balances his chaotic lifestyle fighting crime and being Peter Parker.
Best digital deal: Mortal Kombat 11
Platform : PlaySation4/5
Rating: M for Mature
Cost: $7.99 (or $14.99 for the ultimate add on edition)
Mortal Kombat is perhaps one of the most recognizable video game titles to a non-video game audience next to Mario and Tomb Raider. The Mortal Kombat timeline has gone through some confusing and convoluted subplots over the years, which led to the series getting a reboot back in 2011. But despite all the narrative intricacies, the basic premise is this: another realm known as Outworld yearns to invade and conquer earth; however, in order to do so they must beat our greatest fighters in ten straight tournaments known as Mortal Kombat. Many epic battles were had yet ultimately earth was victorious. Since that time numerous heroes have become villains while some villains have transformed into heroes, enemies grew into friends and vice versa. This all really develops into chaotic territory when in this latest outing an evil being known as Kronika mixes up time, introducing combaters from the first Mortal Kombat to their selves of today. Not only does this provide an intriguing story and a dose of nostalgia for longtime fans, it also showcases how much each one of them have changed, some for the better, others for the worse.
Conclusion
In addition to digital purchases, BestBuy and GameStop are still holding their holiday special buy two and get one free, but remember to read the fine print. Some stores will boast penny pinching opportunities, however they have to be a used game or within a certain price range.
