June marks Pride Month, an annual celebration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer+ (LGBTQ) community. During this time, advocates gather to bring awareness to the ongoing struggle members of the LGBTQ+ community face.
In light of this awareness, the Spring Creek Sun has cultivated a list of Pride events going on this month.
TEAZE: Saturday, June 22nd, Lambda Lounge Brooklyn
Get ready for an all-party because this event is described by NYC Pride organizers as an annual celebration of the Queer existence “Teazing” New York’s most diverse party experience. Catered to adults over the age of 21, this celebration will include a live DJ as well as show-stopping performers at the Lambda Lounge in Brooklyn. It highlights the importance of diversity, love and liberation, and hopes to connect individuals together through a fun night celebrating LGBTQ+ pride.
Youth Pride: Saturday, June 29th, South Street Seaport
Coming out at a young age can be difficult for some, and so NYC Pride organizers created an event that empowered New York City’s youth with an event that creates a safe and inclusive space for individuals to express themselves, their identify and connect with others. This celebration is an outdoor event providing free food, snacks, musical performances, special guests and activities that allows the younger generation to be seen, heard and valued.
Bliss Days: Sunday, June 30th, The DL
This celebration was once known as Femme Fatale and underscores an appreciation for “womxn” in the community. The festivities will feature DJ’s, dancers, performances and special guest appearances at the DL, a rooftop bar and lounge in the Lower East Side.
PrideFest: Sunday June 30th, Greenwich Village
The PrideFest Street fair is back in Greenwich Village, and promises to include a host of exhibitors, food booths, and activities for a day spreading awareness of equality. Event organizers describe PrideFest as an opportunity to welcome families, community leaders, local business owners, and others in an effort to create unity and friendship while also showcasing talent from around the world on their StageFest.
The March: Sunday June 30th, 5th Avenue
What began in 1970 as a protest march after the Stonewall Uprising has now become an annual demonstration of LGBTQ+ pride. NYC Pride organizers stated: “Its purpose has expanded over time to encompass raising awareness about the fight against AIDS and honoring those we have lost to illness, violence, and neglect.”
