Local Elected Officials Salute SCSP Volunteers

On June 14th, Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) hosted their Annual Volunteer Recognition luncheon, honoring those who take their time to help others in need.

The festive event was held on the Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) pool deck, where a buffet table was covered in an assortment of delectable dishes and sweets for all to enjoy. The food provided was simply a small token of appreciation from the SCSP staff, who also distributed certificates, awards, and even a duffle bag filled with goodies.

“Volunteers are those people who give no matter what, and they ask for nothing in return,” New York State Senator, Roxanne Persaud told the Spring Creek Sun during the event.

For Persaud, seniors are pillars of the community who have paved way for others. Many of these older adults still remain active in the community by volunteering with SCSP, and for that SCSP shared their gratitude.

New York City Council Member, Charles Barron echoed this sentiment underscoring the selfless personalities of the volunteers who help others simply because they can.

“There is no greater service in the world, then one who gives of themselves and asks for no material return,” New York City Council Member, Charles Barron told the Spring Creek Sun.

“We have to respect our seniors they paid their dues and their still paying more by volunteering,” Barron added, “I’m proud of them for their volunteer service.”

New York State Assembly member, Nikki Lucas could not attend the luncheon; however, she made sure to pay her respects by calling during the event and offering her many thanks to the volunteers in attendance.

“I’m a walking volunteer. So, I understand exactly the amount of work that it takes. It’s very difficult and sometimes it’s unrewarding. But it’s always rewarding to me, because God has continuously blessed me over and over and over again. So, I just wanted to say congratulations, and how super excited and proud I am of those who really make commitments into those families that allow you guys to make the commitments that you’ve been making for the past several years because you don’t have to do it,” Lucas said.
