The New York State Pandemic Electronic Benefit (P-EBT) Food cards distributed to students in September 2020 received a new deposit of $375 this week thanks to a summer program extension.
This program was created through President Joe Biden’s administration as part of the American Rescue Plan, while these funds were set to expire on September 30th, the federal Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that for the summer $1.8 Billion in P-EBT funds will remain in place to provide food for students throughout the country.
Since the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, food insecurity has been exacerbated all throughout New York. In order to combat this issue, the New York City Department of Education (NYC-DOE) provided forms for parents to fill out in need of food assistance. The P-EBT card allows parents to shop for groceries similar to using a credit card regardless of their income.
Make sure you utilize the money in your P-EBT card! If you do not, the money will go back to the US Treasury. According to the Agriculture department the $375 is given per child for the summer months (that’s $6.82 for each day of the week).
