In September, fashion designer Barbara Hulanicki—founder of the iconic 1964 clothing store BIBA and winner of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2012—enraptured spectators with her new brand Fun in the Sun on Runway 7’s stage in Sony Hall.
Hulanicki’s designs, while a Spring/Summer 2023 collection, were comprised of 39 solid black and white variations each made from Peruvian Pima cotton, which are perfect signature pieces for any time of year. This brand’s assortment reflects Hulanicki herself, both her humor and affinity for black clothing. Bold black lipstick paired with brimmed hats complemented Hulanicki’s streetwear—black and white tops with white stars, butterflies, skulls, and more. Her designed exuded the perfect balance between attitude and grace.
