NYC Pride March Lights Up Fifth Avenue in Rainbow Hues for 40th Anniversary

The New York City Pride March brought smiles and cheers to thousands of revelers from the Flatiron District down to the West Village as organizers celebrated their 40th anniversary on June 30th.

The annual Pride March, a protest that started after the Stonewall Riots, has been an ongoing event that works to bring awareness to the obstacles and inequalities the LGBTQ+ community faces. This year’s theme “Reflect, Empower, Unite” showcases the need to provide resources to young LGBTQ+ individuals through programs, community centers and more. With this in mind, NYC Pride bequeathed the title of Grand Marshall to seven individuals who exemplify that theme including: Raquel Willis, Dashawn Usher, Miss Major, Baddie Brooks, Michelle Visage, Eshe Ukweli and Robin Drake.

Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, Mayor Eric Adams and slew of elected officials kicked off the March waving rainbow flags and dancing in the streets with their constituents as bursts of confetti flew into the air, marking another joyful Pride day.
