NYC Veterans Day Parade Returns

BY AMANDA MOSES

On Nov. 11, the 102nd Annual New York City Veterans Day parade returned along Fifth Avenue after being canceled last year due to COVID-19. This event is the largest commemoration in New York, and also marks the 76th anniversary of the End of World War II, the 71st anniversary of the start of the Korean War, and the 30st anniversary of Operation Desert Storm.

Prior to the parade kicking off, elected officials, veterans, military personnel and families joined the United War Veterans Council in a wreath ceremony observing the 20th Anniversary of the Global War on Terror in Madison Square Park. At 11 am, they bowed their heads in silence in honor of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month (this act is in remembrance of when the guns across the battlefield fell silent during World War I.)
