On December 14th, Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) held a special holiday mask distribution outside of their office at 160 Schroeders Avenue from 2pm to 4pm, thanks to funding from the New York City Department for the Aging and the New York State Office for the Aging.
Volunteers and SCSP staff dressed in their most festive attire for the event (donning reindeer headbands, eccentric Christmas sweaters, and even a necklace with decorative lights) as they packaged items for the seniors to enjoy for the holidays.
“It is always a pleasure for us to serve the seniors, and to do our best to protect them by any means necessary. COVID-19 is still here, and we want to give them something that will help protect them. That’s what we do, help them and serve them,” SCSP Director Ronald Jean said.
A total of 17 seniors received clear plastic giftbags with images of Santa Claus, gingerbread men, and snowmen that were filled to the brim with disposable surgical masks, a face shield, a stress basketball, crayons, a coloring book, and a magnifying glass. In addition to the holiday packages, SCSP also offered attendees free squash and oranges to take home.
“Events like this really help me, so I don’t have to run all over the place looking for a mask. Since COVID-19 is going to be here for quite some time, we need to have masks. I appreciate everything that SCSP is doing,” said Bill Bailey, a longtime SCT resident.
