SCT Offers Free Health Screenings

On Saturday, June 18th residents of Spring Creek Towers were able to have free health screenings at the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC). The Heart to Heart Health Screenings were sponsored by the Starrett City Tenant Association, Weil Cornell Medical Center, and the Spring Creek Recreational Fund.
In the lower level of the BSC, residents were able to have their blood pressure checked, cholesterol and diabetic screenings, nutrition consultations and a discussion with a physician to go over the next steps they should take and recommendations. This was all done at one time in one place without having to travel to have all of this checked. Al of the screenings were provided by Weill Cornell Medical College nurses, and doctors along with nursing and medical students.
There were patient navigators who assisted participants through every step of the process. They explained the necessity of regular health screenings, the actual testing process, and test results. This whole process took approximately 20-30 minutes and that included receiving the results. The patient navigators answered questions that the residents had. Thirty people completed a full health screening including a consultation with the nutritionist and the physician. Residents were encouraged to pre-register but, walk-ins were welcomed.
Participants were able to enroll in Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance through the insurance navigator.
“We were so excited to host the Weill Cornell Medical College Heart to Heart program and their volunteers. So many of us struggle with access to quality health care, and health screening events like today’s help bridge the gap. Residents and community members took time out of their weekend to attend today, which is a powerful step on the journey to prioritizing health and well-being” said Nanda Prabhakar, Executive Director of the Spring Creek Recreational Fund.
