Children in the Starrett Early Learning Center (SELC) were learning about Women’s History Month and the historical achievements of women. In order to commemorate this celebration of women throughout history Each of the classes in the SELC participated in their own presentations for Women’s History Month.
In some of the classes (rooms 1, 2, 5, and 6) students created Women’s History Month projects at home with the help of their families. These projects demonstrated the various contributions of women throughout history. The children’s families helped them to choose any woman who made a contribution to women’s history. They selected a woman and put together a poster board or if not on poster boards they used construction paper and put a photo of the woman with her name and some facts about her to present to their classmates.
In room 4, Ms. Amy, Ms. T, and Ms. Ciera’s students created a quilt in celebration of Women’s History Month. This family engagement project was given to students to complete at home with their families and bring back to share with their classmates. The quilt tells the stories of women throughout history up to and including present time. “Each patch is special and unique just like our students, their families and the woman they honored,” said Ms. Amy.
“I have seen some of the wonderful ways that you have selected to celebrate Women this month. The children are learning and being exposed to history and historical events,” said Ms. Tammy Moore, SELC’s Executive Director.
