Senator Persaud, SCTA, and Campaign Against Hunger Hosts Food Distribution at SCT

New York State Senator, Roxanne Persaud along with the Campaign Against Hunger and the Starrett City Tenant Association (SCTA) hosted a food distribution in the Brooklyn Sports Club’s outdoor basketball courts near 160 Schroeders Avenue.

Beneath the bright sunshine, dozens of Spring Creek Towers residents, many of them seniors, lined Schroeders Avenue with their shopping carts awaiting the food giveaway. Since the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic food insecurity has heightened in many communities, coupled with inflation rates, those who are living on a fixed income have found themselves struggling to keep their refrigerators stocked.
Regina Harrington and her friend Emma Ashe say they are extremely thankful for Senator Persaud’s food distributions, especially just before Passover and the Easter Holiday weekend.

“It is very helpful. We are thankful to be getting these extra helpings,” Ashe said, sharing that with COVID-19 life has changed dramatically for her since she still does not have large family gatherings for holidays.

Like Ashe and Harrington, countless others thanked Persaud and the SCTA for the grocery items, which allowed them to take a sigh of relief as volunteers handed them tote bags filled with fresh vegetables, produce, and other non-perishable items.
