You are never too old to continue learning. Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) members joined together at SCSP’s office to cele-brate Juneteenth on June 19th. Robin Devonish, NORC Supervisor explained to the participants some facts about Juneteenth that they may not have been aware of and this is where the learning continues. They say that you learn something new everyday and this is where it holds true for SCSP members.

“We celebrated Juneteenth by giving a brief education of interesting facts about the holiday. The resource that we used was Black Voices Rising Index. We shared what the overall holiday is about, where it’s most celebrated, and other fun facts like the colors of the flag and how some cities host Juneteenth pageants. Some participants shared their knowledge of the holiday as well,” said Devonish.

Seventeen of SCSP participants joined the Juneteenth celebration where they learned new facts, saw a movie called “Miss Juneteenth” on Amazon Prime about a mother encouraging her daughter to join the Miss Juneteenth pageant.

Not only did the seniors enjoy the movie, but also they dined on some staples that are associated with Juneteenth’s celebration. Some of these staples of celebration for Juneteenth are: strawberry and barbecue. SCSP served barbecue chicken, other finger foods, straw-berry juice, and cheesecake to commemorate the holiday.

“It was a great turnout and though Juneteenth can be a heavy subject, we kept it light and positive as possible. The clients really enjoyed the movie, brief education about Juneteenth and another opportunity to do something together,” said Devonish.
