Spring Creek Senior Partners Hosts Thanksgiving giveaway

On November 17th, Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon in the Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) gymnasium for the older adults in the Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) community.

Autumn colors adorned tabletops, the walls, and even the basketball hoops inside of the BSC gymnasium as dozens of seniors gathered for what many are calling a “Friendsgiving” lunch.   For some, the holiday season can be very lonesome and depressing, so SCSP’s staff made sure to provide as many interactive and festive opportunities for members to enjoy.

Robin Devonish, the NORC Supervisor at SCSP, welcomed all in attendance and implored that seniors stop by their office, even if it’s just to introduce themselves, so that together they can build a rapport. She stressed that SCSP offers a plethora of year-round programing, including wellness workshops, financial literacy lessons and more.

Several elected official representatives as well as incoming New York City Council Member Chris Banks attended the affair in hopes of spreading holiday cheer and show their support for SCSP’s efforts.

“We have so much to be grateful for,” Banks began, “Thank you for your support, and I am looking forward to represent you…We got a lot of work to get done and I’m going fight day in and day out for the 42nd Council District because we deserve it.”

The upbeat sounds of Caribbean and Latin music emanated throughout the halls, as the enticing scent of turkey, rice, and an assortment of other entrees filled the air.  For some this event might be the only Thanksgiving meal that the seniors would be able to participate in, as they interacted with their friends, for others it is a welcoming start to the holiday season.

In addition to the luncheon, SCSP also held a movie day on November 22nd to get seniors into the holiday spirit.
