AUGUST IS NATIONAL IMMUNIZATION AWARENESS MONTH
National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance in August that highlights the importance of vaccines for people of all ages. The month aims to raise awareness of how vaccines can help prevent serious illnesses and diseases, some of which can be deadly. NIAM also highlights the role vaccines play in saving lives, and how they can protect the health of communities, loved ones, and individuals.
Some examples of vaccines that are important:
- Meningococcal vaccine: Protects against meningitis and bloodstream infections
- HPV vaccine: Protects against cancers caused by HPV
- Tdap vaccine: Protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough
- Flu vaccine: Protects against seasonal flu
Routine vaccination are important throughout a person’s life to protect them and their communities from vaccine-preventable diseases and outbreaks.
