SPRING CREEK SENIOR PARTNERS NEWS – September 23

September is National Preparedness Month.

Being prepared begins with you.  Make sure you are aware and have the knowledge, supplies and most importantly, a personal plan in case of an emergency.

This is an excellent time to review and revise your own personal emergency plan, procedures and supplies. Visit the following sites for updated information on the severe weather that affects New York City:  https://maps.nyc.gov/hurricane and www.nyc.gov/severeweather.

Here are some other tips to consider:

Prepare and update your personal emergency plans and Go Bags. You should be test your plan by running a “practice drill”.

Register for Notify NYC alerts which sends up-to-date information on emergencies and other events in your area.

Download Ready NewYork guides on emergency preparedness or call 311 to receive copies which provides a step by step instruction on how to prepare.  Additionally, Ready New York guides are available in 16 languages including Braille and on tape.  Also, children and teen guides are available. Also, take the Readiness Challenge on www.nyc.gov/oem  website.

Check www.nyc.gov/plannow for information on keeping your cell phone charged, how to prepare for an active shooter event, and types of terrorist attacks.

Download the Ready NYC mobile application to prepare an emergency plan to store on a mobile device and share with your older adults who can then share with their support network at www.nyc.gov/oem, Select Guides and Resources – Ready NYC app.
