It’s that time of the year again where members of the Starrett Judo Club competed at the New York State Championship. Four members of the Starrett Judo Club participated in the New York State Judo Championship. Kelsey Billups, Jackson “JJ” Billups, Caiden Bernard, and Cayen Altidor all took part in the state championship on Sunday, November 12th at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, New York and came out as winners.
The four athletes of the Starrett Judo Club competed against approximately 40 dojo’s (judo schools) at the state championship. These youngsters are seasoned competitors at the state level.
Here is how they faired at the tournament:
Kelsey Billups: 1st place
Jackson “JJ” Billups: 4th place
Caiden Bernard: 1st place (This is his first time taking 1st place)
Cayenne Altidor: 3rd place
“Considering the fact that there have been a lot of injuries they did an outstanding job! They are on course for the Starrett Cup which we will be hosting in January,” said Coach Legros.
