On August 13th, the 40th National Dominican Day Parade kicked off on 36th Street and 6th Avenue after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Midtown Manhattan reverberated with Latin music and the cheers of thousands as they waved their Dominican flags, applauding the numerous parade floats at they traveled up Broadway and ended on 51st Street and 7th Avenue.
During the event, elected officials hosted an official ribbon cutting, christening the National Dominican Day Parade’s return. Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Senator Chuck Schumer, and this year’s parade Grand Marshal, New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez held giant scissors commemorating the occasion.
