The Tribeca Film Festival returned as a full-scale in-person extravaganza, featuring world premieres, red carpets, immersive talks, and more from June 9th to June 19th. Last year, the Tribeca Film Festival hosted outdoor and virtual screenings at a limited capacity due to COVID-19. However, this year the film festival was back in action hosting events at numerous venues throughout the city including, BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Spring Studios, SVA Theatre, Cinepolis Chelsea, Village East by Angelica, Tribeca Film Center, The Beacon Theatre, and the newly renovated United Palace.
One of the many features showcased was the film Forgiven, a drama starring Ralph Fiennes, Jessica Chastain, and Matt Smith, which premiered on June 14th at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
Starlets Jessica Chastain, Abbey Lee, and others graced the red carpet in support of their latest cinematic endeavor. The film focuses on a couple teetering on the brink of divorce David (Fiennes) and Jo (Chastain) as they cope with a horrible car accident while on vacation in Morocco. David was driving drunk through the desert with his wife Jo, when they accidently struck the young boy. However, instead of fessing up about the crime to the police, the rich couple tried to circumvent these proceedings. The story unfolds as both Jo and David come to terms with this situation. The family of the deceased boy learns of his murder and demand for both the return of the boy’s body and for David to attend the funeral proceedings.
The Forgiven is based on Lawrence Osborne’s novel and is directed by John Michael McDonagh, whose eye captures the many cracks in society’s classes, particularly how social standing and power corrupts morality.
After the premiere screening at BMCC, TFF hosted a Q&A with the Writer, Director and Producer, McDonagh, Producer and Editor Elizabeth “Lizzie” Eves, and stars, Jessica Chastain, Christopher Abbott, Abbey Lee and Mourad Zaoui.
