The Frills of the Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival

By Amanda Moses

New Yorkers hopped into the spring season donning their most festive frock for the Annual Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival on April 9th.

Easter Sunday saw the streets of Midtown Manhattan flooded with hundreds of revelers wearing bunny ear headbands, flamboyant bonnets, and some even dressed in festive attire in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on 5th Avenue.

Several attendees showcased their creativity by hand stitching vintage-styled hats, while others dressed from head to toe in Easter-themed costumes. It was a grand event that went on from 10am to 4pm.  Traditionally, these festivities began in the 1870s and have continued to be a time-honored activity that tourists and New Yorkers enjoy together.
