On December 7th, The Opportunity Hub hosted its second annual free Holiday Photoshoot inside the Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) gymnasium, spreading festive cheer through family and friend portraits.
A picture, as the saying goes, is worth a thousand words—and for the holidays, The Opportunity Hub gave Spring Creek Towers and Brooklyn residents a beautiful, lasting gift. Community Engagement Liaison Dizzy Brown coordinated the event, engaging with attendees to hear what brings them joy during the holiday season.
Brooklyn resident Joy, wearing festive pajamas and sitting on a sleigh with her daughter, shared that it was the first photoshoot she had ever taken part in.
“[I am] so thrilled. I wouldn’t miss this for anything. Thank you so much,” Joy said.
When asked about the best gift she had ever received, Brown recalled a scarf from her grandmother.
“The best holiday gift was a handmade scarf she made for me. She passed away two years ago, and I still have it 10 years later. She used to crochet everything: skirts, scarves, hats. Custom-made gifts are different than anything else,” Joy said.
Longtime Spring Creek Towers (SCT) resident Maria was disappointed that she missed last year’s holiday photoshoot, so she made sure to mark her calendar this year.
When Brown inquired about her favorite Christmas gift, Maria said it was not material.
“The best Christmas gift I ever received was the smile on my kids’ faces,” Maria said.
The holiday photoshoot saw dozens of families, some wearing festive pajamas and others in their finest ugly sweaters.
