The Return of New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con (NYCC) is back in action! Like the return of a long-lost hero, NYCC made a spectacular comeback in-person for the first time in almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. It was one of the largest conventions to open again in New York City and took place between October 7 to October 10. Reed Pop, the event’s organizer, cut badge sales in half from 250,000 to 150,000, as well as met with the latest state mandate vaccination/testing regulations and CDC health and safety guidelines—to ensure a more secure extravaganza.

NYCC was a much-needed respite for many who look forward to the grander of the occasion, including cosplay, gaming, entertainment guests, exclusive panels, and access to various artists. Although several vendors and guests bowed out of the event, fans still were able to enjoy a spacious convention—especially since the Javits Center expansion—where the newest Ghostbusters: Afterlife film was released as well as the premier of the television show Chucky!

Autographs and photo ops were also available and took place behind plexiglass for precaution. At these one-on-one meetings there were Star Trek favorites George Takei and William Shatner present (days before Shatner set off to fly in space), as well as WWE and AEW superstars.

Cosplayers made sure to don their very best attire, making sure the entire four-day affair was a week to remember.
