Nathan Drake is back and this time he is in 4K.

The Uncharted Series has now made its way to the Playstation 5 with a remaster of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and its downloadable content Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Although the dual compilation is missing some content, it gains a great deal of beauty and performance enhancements.

Omissions

The Uncharted franchise follows the Indiana Jones—esque exploits of Nathan Drake, a wise-cracking treasure hunter who always seems to find himself knee deep in trouble. In the fourth iteration—which originally released all the way back in 2016 on the Playstation 4—we discover that Nathan has a brother, a realization that sends him on an expansive journey across the globe.

Most probably you already know these details as Uncharted was among the top releases of gaming’s last generations. The real question is whether it is worth delving back into on a newer system.

Starting with the omissions. Unfortunately, this new collection discards the multiplayer modes the game originally launched with. While this will come as a great disappointment for those who were fans of the frantic online death matches. However, many at the time considered these game types an afterthought. On the positive side the single player, the main part of the experience, has seen some significant improvements.

                                                                        Appearance

Graphically, the game is beautiful with environments appearing lush with rich textures.  Gamers have a few options to choose from when the bootup Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, performance mode which runs at 60 frames per second, graphics mode running at 120 frames per second, and fidelity mode at 30 frames per second in 4K. Whichever option you choose, the game plays so much smoother than its original counterpart. The only downfall is sometimes the camera angles are a bit finicky, particularly when you need to back jump from one ledge to an adjacent one.

Conclusion

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will bring back plenty of laughs, nostalgia, and frustration (especially since there are quite a few missable tropias and will require gamers to replay the game a few times). This new game was released on January 28th and comes just a few weeks before the much-anticipated film Uncharted, starring Tom Holland (from Spider-man), Mark Wahlberg, and Antonio Banderas. The film premiers in theaters on February 18th.
