Director of Starrett Early Learning Center: Tammy Moore
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!
I am passionate about collaborating with families in building and developing emotionally and cognitively strong resilient learners. There is a saying which states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I believe this wholeheartedly and because of it, the amazing work of ‘raising’ this generation is one I gladly share with all of the education leaders within our village. Our main focus is to prepare each student for kindergarten and beyond while having fun as we are providing a wonderful and joyful experience!
The Mission of Starrett Early Learning Center
Starrett Early Learning Center serves the community, families and students by providing a nurturing environment which fosters authentic play and learning through developmentally appropriate hands-on experiences.
Families of diverse cultures and backgrounds have opportunities in the school setting and at home to participate in enriching family engagement activities to further enhance learning.
Starrett Early Learning Center is committed to forging strong and positive relationships between school and home with the goal of building life-long learning and growth for all.
We acknowledge that together, the collective positive contributions of home and school will enhance holistic development of our young learners.
Starrett Early Learning Center is comprised of five Department of Education contracted classrooms which serve 3- and 4-year-old children. We are an Early Childhood school that is licensed by The Department of Health. Starrett Early Learning Center is one program providing services to the Spring Creek Towers community within two physical buildings.
Starrett Early Learning Center’s curriculum, instruction, monthly themes, weekly activity plans, family engagement and classroom schedules incorporate the goals and objectives aligned with the NYC Early Childhood Framework for Equality and The Early Learning Outcomes Framework. We focus on five main core areas.
- Approaches to Learning – How children become involved in learning and acquiring knowledge.
- Physical Development and Health – Children’s physical health and ability to engage in daily activities.
- Social and Emotional Development – The emotional competence and ability to form positive relationships that give meaning to children’s experiences in the home, school, and larger community.
- Communication, Language, and Literacy – How children understand, create, and communicate meaning.
- Cognition and Knowledge of the World – What children need to know and understand about their world and how they apply what they know.
Additionally, Starrett Early Learning Center believes socially-emotionally healthy children are better able to establish and maintain positive relationships with adults and peers. To support our students in developing these skills, we take a proactive and preventive approach to guidance that reinforces appropriate behaviors rather than focusing on inappropriate behaviors.
It’s going to be a great school year!
Thank you!

Abe Stark Primary School 346: Jabari K. Edwards
Welcome back, P.S. 346, and Spring Creek Towers students, parents, and caregivers! I hope you all enjoyed your summer vacation. There is nothing like spending summer in New York City. To the Spring Towers community, thank you for your continued support. I appreciate your feedback and positive messages. To the students and parents of P.S 346 Abe Stark Elementary, I am in awe of your resilience and determination during a highly challenging year. You are embarking on a new school year, older, wiser, and stronger; continue on your path to greatness!
Last year was very active at P.S. 346. We will continue to emphasize the subjects of math, science, social studies, and English language arts with a unique approach to developing your children’s writing and phonics abilities. I am also excited to expand our work this year with S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to offer innovative learning opportunities for your children. We will explore new ways to learn through virtual reality, podcasting, aerial drones, photography, videography, computer science, robotics, and gardening, just to name a few.
Additionally, we are moving toward a full-uniform school. Parents, thank you for your feedback and support with this endeavor. Don’t hesitate to contact the school for more information regarding uniforms. Communication is vital to the success of our school, and I encourage you to download our school’s app to receive real-time critical information. The app can be found on the App Store or Google Play Market by searching for “P.S. 346 Abe Stark.”
Lastly, the Chancellor and District 19’s theme this year is R.I.S.E; Refine, Innovate, Sustain in service of Equity. With your continued support, we will ensure that P.S. 346 continues to R.I.S.E. The sky is truly the limit!
Yours in education,
Jabari K. Edwards, Principal

“What’s possible for me is possible for you!”
Welcome all parents/guardians and scholars to the 2022-2023 school year. The staff and I have worked hard this summer to prepare for an awesome year. A new school year is an opportunity for a fresh start towards growth and excellence. Academic and social-emotional support for the scholars remain our number one priority at the school. Our theme this school year is Greatness, Team, and Belief. As a family, we will focus on creating a safe and healing school environment while supporting their academic growth. We want then to work towards achieving their greatness in whatever they work on throughout the school year. We are a team here at FDAVIII! The school and home connection are vital for your scholar’s success. “Not all those that believe succeed, but those who succeed believe!”- We believe that we have the greatest scholars in District 19. They must believe in themselves to achieve their goals. I cannot wait to see the remarkable things they accomplish this year.
At Frederick Douglass Academy VIII, our scholars are problem solvers and critical thinkers who identify challenges, gather information, generate potential solutions, refine ideas, and test solutions. This year will be filled with opportunities to express your creativity, knowledge, and power as a scholar through science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. We have added college and career readiness classes to prepare our scholars to society as global citizens.
Communication is key in building a strong home-school connection. I hope to continue building strong partnerships this year with our APP and other digital platforms. There will be monthly “Coffee with the Principal.” Ms. Balfour, our Parent Coordinator, will send out information about these opportunities through the monthly calendar/newsletter.
It is important that you provide the school with an updated phone number and email address. You will also receive notifications and invites to extraordinary events happening at the school through these systems. Our school website www.fdaviii.org will be updated in the upcoming weeks. You can also follow us on Twitter @FDAVIII or Instagram frederickdouglassacademyviii.
This is going to be our best school year yet with the support of committed parents/guardians, a supportive Spring Creek community, hard-working scholars, and dedicated staff in place; we will go all the way up!
Respectfully,
Chantal Grandchamps

Gateway Intermediate School 364: Nicole Fraser-Edmund
Dear Gateway I.S. 364 Community,
On behalf of the staff at Gateway Intermediate School 364, I am happy to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! We look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our best to fulfill our commitments.
The middle years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. Each year will provide critical transitions and the acquisition of new skills that will enhance each student’s ability to apply knowledge in many ways. Gateway Intermediate School 364 is committed to providing a challenging and rigorous curriculum that helps each student progress at a developmentally appropriate rate and provides a safe environment for all students.
As a former middle school teacher, I value each child’s social and emotional development as they transition from their primary years through early adolescence. I value life-long learning and aim to make your child’s learning experience at Gateway Intermediate School 364 engaging and exciting.
As the principal, I believe it is my responsibility to maintain and continue building a supportive and collaborative spirit at our school. As a school community, we will build on the traditions of the past and meet the challenges of the future in innovative and exciting ways.
I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to having a successful and productive school year.
Sincerely,
Nicole Fraser-Edmund
