While some may consider Groundhog Day to mark the coming of warmer, sunny days, Brooklynites know that once Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park opens, it’s officially spring.
To kick off the 102nd anniversary and 2022 season, elected officials and local leaders gathered on Coney Island’s boardwalk just outside of the Wonder Wheel for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 10th.
Hundreds of attendees lined-up for an opportunity to be one of the first 102 individuals who would be awarded a free ride on the iconic Ferris Wheel with only one choice at hand—swinging or stationary? The event was filled with music celebrating what makes Coney Island special to beautiful songs sung by the New Wave Ukrainian School.
The Wonder Wheel wasn’t the only ride families could enjoy, however. Children hopped onto a carousel and into bumper cars, while those who enjoyed the thrill of heights and were more daring rode the Phoenix rollercoaster.
Whatever your fancy is, be it in the sky or your feet firmly on the ground playing carnival games, Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park is open for business.
