The sound of bodies slamming into a mat, the outcry of cheers and boos, and the ding of bell are not exactly sounds you would expect to hear emanating from a church’s recreational area. However, the rumble on holy ground was for a good cause as grapplers from ECPW hoped to raise funds for Our Lady of Grace in Howard Beach on April 27th.
A large wrestling arena was surrounded by hundreds of folding chairs, filled with excited fans as they waited in anticipation to watch the results of the ECPW Empire State Title Match, ECPW Borough Tag Team Match, and more bouts.
The New York City Police Department Chief Jeffrey B. Maddrey was also in attendance applauding the efforts made by the wrestlers as they punched, kicked, and even leapt from the ring’s top turnbuckle.
During a brief intermission, wresters also shook hands, posed for photos and signed autographs for their young fans.
