On February 10th, Miss Alicia Reynolds visited Starrett City Early Learning Center to spread love and read to the young toddlers her debut book named “The ABC’s Of Me: An Alphabet Book Of Black Girl Magic.”

“This book was created to heal the inner child in me and to affirm other children that they are beautiful,” Reynolds told the Spring Creek Sun. “I’m very big on making children know that they are beautiful, that they are knowledgeable. That they are cared for. That they are loved.”

Alicia Reynolds is a Black woman, a Brooklyn resident, an educator and a first-time children’s book author. With over a decade in youth development and five years in education, Alicia has spent her career helping children discover their voice, embrace their uniqueness, and stand tall in their power. Her mission is simple yet powerful: To remind each child that they are loved, they are cared for and they are seen!

“For 14 years, Alicia has worked as a childcare provider, creating safe and inspiring spaces through after school programming and serving as a paraprofessional with the Department of Education,” Reynolds said to the Spring Creek Sun. “She believes in the power of encouragement, love and guidance to help children grow into confident, joyful and empowered individuals. Through her work and this book, Alicia hopes to remind every child that they are amazing, unique and worthy of all the love and care the world has to offer.”

Over the course of the morning, Reynolds narrated her book live for multiple classrooms. In addition to reading her book, she gave every student a copy of her brand new book and a coloring book.

“Each letter in the book represents an affirmation,” Reynolds said. “It has a word that’s attached with a verbal affirmation.”

To keep up with Miss Alicia and her journey, she’s on YouTube under “After School with Ms. Alicia.”
