Spring Creek Towers Youth Programs’ Field Trip to Liberty Science Center

By Amanda Moses

On April 21st, members from the Spring Creek After School Program and the Starrett Judo Club took their first trip for the school year to the Liberty Science Center in New Jersey.

Thirty-seven students participated in the field trip to the Liberty Science Center, an interactive science museum known for having the largest Planetarium in America and is located in Liberty State Park. In addition to the outer space exhibit, students were able to experience almost every aspect of the center including: the Butterfly House, Thomas & Friends Explore the Rails, Pompeii the Immortal City, the Great Train Set: New Jersey’s Lackawanna railroad rides again and more.

One of the highlights of the tour for the students was the “The Building,” a new instillation designed by Leandro Erlich, an Argentinian conceptual artist that uses optical illusions to “defy” the laws of gravity.  Members of the Starrett Judo Club climbed onto a New York City brick storefront, where they pretended to dangle from the balcony and walk along the walls like Marvel’s Spider-Man.
