The Opp Hub Hosts Their 3rd Annual Job Fair  

 On June 5, The Opportunity Hub hosted its 3rd Annual Career Fair, bringing together dozens of employers and training organizations under one roof at The Brooklyn Sports Club. The event, held from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., aimed to connect Brooklyn residents with career pathways, educational opportunities and workforce development resources. 

With more than 40 employers and training partners participated, representing industries including transportation, energy, education, public service, healthcare and community advocacy.  The Opportunity Hub RISE department included Citizens, National Grid, Con Edison, the MTA, NYC Parks, LaGuardia Community College, NYADI, the NYPD, and several nonprofit and workforce development groups. 

They said the fair was designed to provide direct access to employment opportunities while building long-term relationships between employers and the surrounding community. 

“Ideally, it was my hope the career fair created meaningful connections between employers and community members that led to employment opportunities, training placements, and long-term career pathways,” Senior Director of the Resources for Independence, Success & Empowerment (RISE) Joyceline S. Hill said. “Following the event, I believe we accomplished our goal.”  

In addition to job opportunities, attendees received information on internships, certification programs, apprenticeships, educational resources, and support services designed to help navigate today’s competitive workforce. Community leaders emphasized the importance of such events in neighborhoods where access to professional networks and career exposure can be limited. 

“I think the career fair was amazing,” Post-Secondary Readiness Advisor Jai Moore said. “In the feedback I received from vendors they used words amazingly and that we really cared and treated them like family. Events like this help to strengthen partnerships that create new opportunities for the community. Joyce’s hard work and planning truly showed and I can’t wait to do it all over again next year.”  

The Opportunity Hub continues to be committed to its mission with events like the Career Fair, which are rooted in empowerment, economic mobility, and creating spaces where Brooklyn residents could access meaningful opportunities close to home. 

“Going into creating a job fair takes a lot of work, and you just never know who’s going to want to participate and who’s actually going to show up to be the job seekers,” Career & Workforce Specialist Joyce Perez said. “Getting vendors to keep their word. Yes, they want the clientele. They want people to be hired. But they’re entitled sometimes and feel like job seekers can come to us, so that was a little nerve wrecking. I would say that we executed it even better because we worked as a team. And we had a director who was so organized. She made sure weeks before that we met week to week. The execution was done perfectly and even better the day of because we had the initial vision we laid out come into fruition.”  

The free event was open to the public, and attendees were encouraged to arrive prepared with resumes and professional attire to take full advantage of networking opportunities throughout the day.
