Celebrating the Festival of Spring and Love with a Flower Shower

By Amanda Moses

The annual Hindu festival of Holi was celebrated on March 25th all around the globe, marking the start of spring.  This holiday is seen as a celebration of love and colors, as well as honoring deities Radha and Krishna.

On March 23rd, the Bhakti Center—located in Lower Manhattan—came together with its patrons to commemorate the occasion by sprinkling over 450 pounds of flower petals over the deities while singing.  The event invited individuals of all ages and included a dance performance and a segment where everyone tossed flowers at each other.

On April 7th, Richmond Hill will host the 36th Annual Phagwah Parade assembling at Liberty Avenue and 133rd Street at 12pm.  See the Spring Creek Sun’s April 19th issue for coverage.
