This spring gamers were able to visit a galaxy far, far away in the Nintendo Switch with the Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker. This new Lego iteration boasted an open-world experience while voyaging through the nine saga films. So, was this game worth all the hype? While it’s was not exactly mind-blowing, this Lego iteration was still fun to play, especially with friends.

Gameplay

On the downside, upon gaining early access to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker I encountered a glitch that halted my progression after a few hours of gameplay. Playing as Obi-Wan Kenobi tracking Bounty Hunter Jango Fett through the galaxy my game froze, causing the mission start point to completely disappear and leave me floating in space unable to move forward. I tried to play a previous level, but to no avail. It was not until a few days after the game was officially released and an update was patched through was I able to progress. It’s been a reoccurring issue with new games that are released with bugs and gamers are left at the whim of developers to release patches.

Missions

The ability to relieve each segment of the Skywalker saga from young Anakin to Rey was thrilling, recounting lines like “I have the high ground,” and “Do or do not, there is not try,” will have you grinning ear to ear as you wield your light saber in battle. The only gripe with many of the missions is the sheer level of collecting items, which can be a bit tedious when you simply want to enjoy the narrative.

Conclusion

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker allows you to relieve the nine saga films with voice acting and features an entire galaxy filled with fan-favorite planets such as Tatooine, Naboo, and even Ahch-To. Like every other Lego game, there’s a lot of collecting, especially coins, so make sure to thorough go through each level. Additionally, there is new downloadable content available, such as characters from the film Rogue One.
