NYPD Honors Disability Pride Month

BY AMANDA MOSES

The NYPD prides itself on creating an inclusive environment and to help bolster their initiatives they have hired ten hard of hearing, 20 deaf, and 11 other individuals with learning disabilities and autism for their Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

As another step forward, the NYPD also hosted an event at the Woodstock/South Bronx PAL Center’s gymnasium on July 31st honoring Disability Pride Month where they played basketball against the NYC Rolling Fury—a wheelchair team—and members of the Lexington School for the Deaf (many of whom are enrolled in the SYEP with the NYPD).
