SCSP Hosts First Annual Summer Barbecue

BY Amanda Moses

It was summertime bliss with Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) during their first annual barbecue on July 31st.

The aroma of sizzling hot dogs and burgers frying on a grill emanated from the Brooklyn Sports Club’s basketball courtyard, akin to a beckoning hand inviting Spring Creek Towers (SCT) residents to pay a visit. These scents coupled with blaring Latin, Caribbean, and Hip Hop hits resounding from a live DJ booth, created the perfect ambiance for dozens of seniors to end their summer with a fun-filled afternoon of dancing and socializing.

Attendees sat at dozens of tables beneath a gazebo where they munched on their freshly cooked lunch and laughed with one another beneath the bright sun.  In addition to the music and revelry, seniors were able to receive free information pamphlets, win raffles, and adopt a Joy For All Companion pet pup or cat (a fury, interactive toy that emulates real pet interactions to ease the feeling of loneliness).

When the Spring Creek Sun asked seniors what they thought about the event as they danced to salsa music, many of them applauded their hands and stated that they were having a blast.  The barbecue afforded many seniors a much-needed respite after spending the pandemic isolated from friends and family.
