Gung hay fat choy is Cantonese for Happy New Year! On January 22nd, hundreds of spectators paid tribute to the Year of the Rabbit during the 25th Annual Lunar New Year Firecracker Festival, which took place at Sara D Roosevelt Park in Chinatown.

In honor of such an auspicious occasion, thousands of firecrackers are lit to help ward off evil and welcome a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.  In addition to the firecrackers, revelers were captivated by lion and dragon dances, as well as delicious food and souvenirs.
