On Saturday, May 18th The Opportunity Hub held a Career Fair in the Brooklyn Sports Club’s (BSC) gymnasium from 12pm to 3pm. This Career Fair had 176 attendees that ranged from high school students, to adults with compelling work experience.
There were six volunteers through a partner organization, Life Equip Group. There were 22 hiring/training partners which included JobCorps, the US Secret Service, Local 30 Operating Engineers Union, BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers, NYC Administration for Children’s Services, Twin Pines Management, and the Brooklyn Sports Club.
There was a friendly face representing the BSC’s table, Teen Central’s Wyatt who was recently hired as a member of the Aquatics team. There were a number of former Teen Central members and Spring Creek Towers’ Scholarship recipients who were in attendance and looking for summer work or who were embarking on their first post-college position.
The Opportunity Hub received overwhelming positive feedback from their partners.“The overall flow of the day, organization, communication, and information given was excellent! From beginning to end there was clear communication and professionalism throughout.” said Alecia Patrick, of the Italian American Civil Rights League
“This event was amazing, organized professionally and well attended.” said, Heather Phillip, Constituent Liaison of of New York State Senator Roxanne J. Persaud’s office.
Even the attendees were impressed with the way that the Career Fair was set up for the participants. “It was a wonderful experience, very helpful and I actually scored interviews,” said Sheryl G.

“ I definitely enjoyed myself everyone was friendly and motivational” said Kevin C.
Maegan Snell, Career & Workforce Specialist of The Opportunity Hub said, “We here at The Opportunity Hub are so grateful to have had this opportunity to support our community through our first Career Fair. The entire event was filled with warmth and energy as attendees connected with our staff, vendors, and volunteers. Several vendors and volunteers commented on how hospitable The Opportunity Hub and Brooklyn Sports Club staff were as well as how intentional and willing the participants were in engaging with them. Many vendors have asked to come back for the next career fair because of this positive community engagement. Over the past week, community members have shared with The Opp Hub staff that they are anticipating the next career fair and are grateful to have had a chance to learn more about available job opportunities. In fact, over 100 participants have reached out to our Career & Workforce Specialists to schedule a one-on-one meeting, which with further help them advance their careers.”
