Tis the Season to Deck the Halls

The winter holidays have come and gone, but what remains is the jovial spirit of Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) residents through the Spring Creek Tenants Association’s (SCTA) annual deck the halls extravaganza. In keeping with the festivities, residents have adorned their lobbies with Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Three Kings’ Day.

Spring Creek Towers After School Program’s Black History Showcase

On February 18th, the Spring Creek After School Program hosted a Black History event at PS 346 entitled, “Black is Poppin.” Utilizing contemporary culture and crucial present-day topics the group of students underscored Black empowerment through song, dance, art and more.

The stresses of life and work can sometimes feel extremely over-whelming, so it’s important to take a step back and focus on your wellbeing. Considering this, Spring Creek Towers’ Youth Director, Eurydice Robinson offered a staff development workshop that focuses on mindfulness through painting.

SCT Resident Graduates Citizens Police Academy

Local Spring Creek Towers’ resident graduates Citizens Police Academy and learns what it’s like to live behind the blue line. Maria Cruz does not mince her words. She tells it like it is, and for some this may seem like brutal honesty, but for others it is a refreshing look at the truth. Which is perhaps what spurred her relationship with the NYPD and catapulted her into the Citizens Police Academy.

Fun with Spring Creek Towers’ Young Adults Program

The magic of the Spring Creek Towers’ (SCT) Young Adults Program is taking the community by storm, one tournament, anime screening, and gaming event at a time.

Every Thursday at 7pm, young adults ages 18-21 meet in the Teen Central Lounge, located in the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) and spend the evening laughing, listening to music, eating a variety of foods and simply socializing in a safes space.

Judokas Win Medals at Pedro’s Judo Challenge

The Starrett Judo Club is on the move! There is no stopping these judokas. Their hard work, practice, and determination shows when they compete. Three members of the Starrett Judo Club attended Pedro’s Judo Challenge in Danvers, Massachusetts on Sunday, April 3rd. This is a high-level judo tournament where judokas came from all over the world to compete.

Senator Persaud, SCTA, and Campaign Against Hunger Hosts Food Distribution at SCT

Starrett Judo Club Marches in New York City’s First Japan Parade

JASA Remembers Veterans on Memorial Day

JASA Starrett Senior Center kicked off their Memorial Day celebration a few days early on May24th with a lunchtime commemoration. JASA staff and volunteers decorated the cafeteria with red, white, and blue balloons and tablecloths as well as numerous American flags to showcase their appreciation for the veterans who’ve served and sacrificed their lives.

PS 346’s Virtual Career Day

On May 27th, PS 346 held their Virtual Career Day hosted by School Counselor, Robin Greene. All of students were allowed to participate.  There were three different speakers, first was Atiba Edwards, who is Principal Edwards’ brother and is the Executive VP & COO of Brooklyn Children’s Museum. He oversees several different departments including Finance, HR, Visitor Experience, and several other areas.

Sisters with Purpose Distributes Baby Formula at Food Pantry

Sisters with Purpose (SWP) have now added baby formula to their weekly food distribution thanks to a donation. On Saturdays, the local nonprofit hosts their food pantry in the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC) for the past eight years. On May 21st, their distribution included bottles and cans of Enfamil baby formula—a necessity many parents have been struggling to obtain due to the nationwide baby formula shortage.

Spring Creek After School Program Students Practice Yoga

The Spring Creek After School Program reinforces many of the lessons taught in school for the children, in addition to providing homework help; the program incorporates STEM lessons, arts and crafts, performing arts, trips, fun Fridays, while also having physical fitness as a component of their curriculum.
