JASA Seniors Celebrate the Holidays

By Amanda Moses

On December 16th, JASA Starrett Senior Center hosted their holiday party in the lower level of the Brooklyn Sports Club (BSC). The anticipated event returned after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus, much to the pleasure of dozens of older adults.  Since the dawn of the pandemic, many seniors shared their desire to socialize with others while participating in programs and fun-filled events—and the holiday party was the epitome of that.

The BSC’s Aspen room was transformed into a winter wonderland, featuring holiday-themed photo booth areas honoring Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Christmas.  There was even a buffet-style table where seniors were able to dine on a delicious lunch with entertainment from a live DJ.

It would not be a JASA party without members showcasing their superb dance moves. Seniors wiggled their hips and clapped their hands to salsa beats and disco classics.  One member, with the help of her friends and family, stood up from her wheelchair and began dancing the “Cha Cha Slide.” It was for many in attendance, the perfect holiday wish come true—an afternoon rejoicing with friends.
