On January 15, Spring Creek’s Senior Partners teamed up with TheOppHub and Project US to continue their Senior Nutritional Workshop.

Doubling down on their first installment, which focused on cultivating Efis (Haitian Epis), a Haitian Green Sauce designed for seasoning, myriad seniors of the community came together to cook chicken breasts and marinate it in that same culture-based sauce. To add to their meal, they crafted a fresh garden salad as well.

In conjunction with good food and constructive activity, the session provided the senior population with a solid opportunity for quality fellowship and community engagement.

Based in Canarsie, Project US aims to uplift communities across Brooklyn, focusing on community engagement and amplification.

“We launched our nutritional workshop to empower youth and families with practical, affordable, culturally grounded food education, Lloyd Harris, Director of Project US said. “This type of activity aims to improve energy, academic performance, mental health, and lifelong wellness for all participants, with our core focus being the youth.”

This event promotes social interaction, self-assurance, and skill development, showing how nutrition education may also promote community and empowerment among the elderly of the Starrett City.
