Starrett Judo Club Members Retain their State Titles

Members of the Starrett Judo Club are showing off their moves while winning in their recent tournaments. These Judokas recently took part in two different tournaments. On October 30th they went to the IJC-Four Seasons Invitational Tournament in Flushing, Queens, where Jackson Billups received a gold medal and his twin sister, Kelsey Billups received a silver medal. 

On November 13th, Judokas of the Starrett Judo Club participated in the New York State Judo Championship at Salesian High School in New Rochelle. Jackson Billups, Kelsey Billups, and Dominick Bonserio, who are all purple belts, have retained their state championship titles.  “They won outstandly,” said Sensei Legros.

Legros is grooming and prepping these three so that they can enter the Olympics in 2028. “They are pretty much on the course. By the age 18 they should be ready to be contenders for the Olympics,” said Legros.

Members of the Starrett Judo Club have a full schedule ahead with tournaments on November 27th at Salesian High School in New Rochelle for the Freedom Cup Tournament, December 11th the Annual Holiday Tournament at the Brooklyn Sports Club, and on January 15th the 30th Annual Starrett Cup.
